Natural Nutritional Therapy #01

Natural Nutritional Therapy

Natural Nutritional Therapy uses the body's own natural cleansing processes to aid healing. It addresses the imbalance in the individual's biochemistry which encourages the body to achieve optimum health.

The recommendations to the client will include advice on which foods to introduce to the diet and those to avoid. It will also include a prescription that could include all or some of the following: - food supplements, naturopathic techniques, the use of essential oils and or herbal tinctures or herbal ointments.

During the consultation the client's medical history and current symptoms are discussed. An Iridology assessment is also undertaken to highlight the body system or systems that require support. (Please visit the Naturopathic Iridology page for more details.)

The client should leave the consultation feeling empowered. After all, the consultation is about the client and their road back to health.

One consultation is often not sufficient to achieve the client's goal because the body is constantly changing. In the early stages of returning to health, regular consultations are advisable at 6-8 week intervals. These will review the progress and recommend changes to the foods, prescription, food supplements and naturopathic techniques.

    The Consultation
By the time you and I meet for the first consultation or healing session, you will already have acknowledged that healing in some form needs to take place for you to regain your health. You will have decided that either Nutrition or Energy Field Healing is your preferred route. I also acknowledge that this is a big step for you to take and your details and any information you decide to impart is treated with the strictest of confidence.

    THE CONSULTATION for Natural Nutrition
The initial consultation is likely to last for two hours. (Follow up consultations are likely to last for one hour.) During this time you will be invited to discuss your medical history and your current symptoms in detail, including any prescribed medication or supplements that you are currently taking. There will also be questions regarding the health of your family i.e. parents and grandparents.

With your permission I will undertake an Iridology Assessment. This takes just a few minutes.

We will then discuss your disease picture, your toxic load and how foods will contribute to re-gaining your health. Included in the discussion will be how the body functions with regard to elimination, What causes toxic waste and contributes to the toxic load and your emotional connection to all of this. In addition we will discuss in detail foods and their effects on the body i.e acid forming or alkaline forming.

Finally, you will take away a prescription that will provide details on foods, food supplements (dosage and when to take) and how to administer certain Naturopathic Techniques that will aid the recovery process. The prescription may also include the use of essential oils and herbs if appropriate to you. This prescription will be created just for you so even if someone that you know is experiencing the same symptoms as you, and they consulted me, they may not receive exactly the same prescription. Why? Because you are an individual and you have arrived at this point by your own special journey, therefore you need an individual approach to this.

You will also be provided with some recipes and ideas for meals that incorporate foods that have been discussed. In order that I may continue to help you between consultations you will be encouraged to contact me if you feel you require advise or support.

    TOP TIPS

If you are looking for some tips to improve your health then give these a try.

    1) Monitor the amount of tea and coffee you are drinking. Both of these are stimulants and contain chemicals that prevent the absorption of certain minerals that are important for our health. Replace tea and or coffee with diluted fruit juices, water or herbal infusions.

    2) Try drinking a glass or mug of warm water with fresh lemon juice (the juice from a thick slice of lemon) every day. If you can manage this as the first drink of the day then it is even more beneficial for you.

    3) If you are not used to drinking more than a couple of glasses of water a day then it is advisable to slowly increase your water intake and to spread it across the day. Increase the water consumption to a level that feels right for you. This depends on your occupation and weather conditions and can be anywhere between one litre a day to several litres. The kidneys find it difficult to cope with large volumes of water so to be deluged in it when they are not used to it can cause them a few problems. Be sympathetic to their cause and slowly introduce the water. Your body will thank you for it.

    4) Be aware that alcohol dehydrates the cells of the body and causes the liver a lot of work. If your lifestyle is to have a daily alcohol "fix" then try and have a few days every week without alcohol. If you have a known medical condition, and particularly if you are on certain prescribed medication, then it is best not to partake in alcohol at all.

    5) Aim to eat freshly cooked foods and avoid the use of ready meals. Freshly cooked vegetables will retain more vitamins and minerals if they are lightly cooked by either steaming or stir fry/steam than if they are boiled or eaten after being cooked the previous day.

    6) Eat seasonal vegetables and those grown locally. This not only cuts down on "food miles" but usually means the vegetables are fresher therefore they retain more nutrients. It also means we eat the nutrients from the soil where we live and this can help our bodies. Seasonal vegetables means we eat more root crops such as carrots, parsnips, swede and potatoes in autumn and winter months and more leafy green vegetables during the spring and summer months. This helps our bodies because the human is an animal and responds to the seasons as other animals do. In that process the human body benefits from the nutrients contained within the vegetables when eaten at their harvest time.

    7) Experiment with different foods. Try to have some days without eating meat if you are a meat eater. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, try some different grains or vegetable protein. By extending our range of foods we increase the number of different nutrients we consume every day.

    8) Try to eat regularly , either three main meals and two snacks or five small meals, throughout the day and not eat a big meal in the evening, especially just before going to bed. This provides a steady supply of energy throughout the day. In addition, the digestive system is not trying to process food as the body is sleeping. The high calorie intake late at night means the body cannot expend this energy as easily as it would during the day.

    9) If you are vegetarian or vegan it is important that you combine a grain with a source of vegetable protein in order that you have all eight essential amino acids in the stomach for absorption at the same time. This means combining rice and beans or rice and lentils or quinoa and beans or quinoa and lentils; you get the picture!

    10) Don't forget to allow some time to exercise and relax . The form of exercise is one of personal choice. Some people like to practice yoga whilst others like to jog around the park. Relaxation is just as important. It is especially important to feel relaxed before you eat. If you try to eat when feeling emotional and upset you can find the digestive system feeling very uncomfortable. Nutrients are absorbed more fully when you are feeling relaxed.

Natural Nutritional Therapy #06It is advisable to change only one aspect of your eating and drinking habits at any one time. This allows the body time to adjust before introducing another change. Please bear in mind that these tips are pointers only and you should seek professional medical advise if you have a known medical condition or you feel unwell after introducing any one of these aspects.
